Hot Track Alert

Anxiety: The Worst

by Daniel Lupton

I hadn't even heard of Anxiety before their LP dropped on LVEUM, but it's already proving to be one of the most exciting things that the label has released in some time, and that's really saying something! On the first few listens, "The Worst" was a stand-out track because it sounds so much like Crass, but beefed up and modernized. One thing that Anxiety really have a mastery of is layering sounds... after that buzzing synth starts the song there are all of these weird criss-crossing guitar lines throughout the verses, accenting the off-beats in a way that most bands wouldn't dare do lest they come off as ska. I have no idea how they would perform this song (or many of their others) without an orchestra full of guitarists and synth-players, but I know I'd like to find out.
