Produced by the borough that bought us the pastiche orchestration of St. Etienne & the pushed sense of electronic manipulation that birthed dubstep, “Satellite” brings us a seemingly lost anthology of starkly DIY electronic & experimental sound work. Drum machine-focused tactile gold that is not unlike a nascent Thomas Leer holding Brian Eno hostage in order to pen a film score for a lost Eames-produced short film, these 22 tracks of instrumental meditation on civics, modernist architecture, utopian living & the interstices of a mega city is an effortless & dream-like listen.
This collection of music was crafted in a collection of flats & houses throughout SE London on a Tascam 8 Track, a phone & from varying sources of drum loops & found sound. It is as thoughtful as it is jarring, & while it might veer far from any kind of conventional pop sensibility it is unmistakably in love with the “song”.
