Really great contemporary German punk. Influenced by classic Deutschpunk like SLIME or SCHLEIM-KEIM but with a modern twist. Great song writing with sinister vocals and pounding drums. This will slip under the radar in much of the U.S. but i think it stands up as one of the most honest and enjoyable hardcore records of 2016. Scope it.
Our take: Killer LP from this German hardcore band... I hadn't heard anything about them, but the record was recommended to me by a member of Zero, who toured with them, and I'm thankful for being hipped to this beast. Gewaltbereit don't really fit comfortably into any particular hardcore sub-sub-genre... they're not really d-beat, but they're really noisy, and while they're really fast they're a long way from fastcore.... basically, they just play absolutely raging hardcore with really interesting songwriting and a raw, visceral approach. I can certainly hear elements of old German hardcore like Razzia or Slime, but at the end of the day this is much more chaotic and raw than most German music from the 80s. What it actually reminds of me quite a lot is early Terveet Kadet... like records such as Ääretön Joulu and their first LP, this is very complex, but at the same time very raw, primitive, and visceral. If that sounds up your alley I highly recommend this one... perhaps the under-the-radar rager of this update.
