Parking
Raleigh street parking is free during evenings and weekends (some spaces are free after 6PM, others after 8PM). Street parking regulations are enforced, but private lots (like the one across from Sorry State) can tow aggressively, so don’t park in these without paying.
Finding street parking around the venues can take patience, but it’s possible. If you’re looking for an easier option, we recommend the parking deck at 233 S Wilmington St near Kings and the Pour House and the deck at 209 W Morgan St if you’re looking for something near Sorry State and RUMAH. If you’re looking for totally free parking and you’re willing to walk, try Boylan Ave south of Hargett St on the SSR/RUMAH side of town (this is the historic Boylan Heights neighborhood, which is nice to walk around) and anything east of Person St on the Kings/Pour House side of town.
Food & Drinks
Purr Cup Cafe
210 Prospect Ave
Punk-owned coffee shop with an all-vegan menu. Grab a quick coffee and/or snack, or book the cat room to play with the kitties.
Fiction Kitchen
428 S Dawson St
All-vegan restaurant with an eclectic menu including vegan takes on local cuisine like NC barbecue and chicken and waffles.
Beansprout
3721 Hillsborough St
The tofu dishes at Beansprout have filled many a Raleigh punk’s belly over the years, and if you’re looking for something cheap and hearty, you can’t go wrong here.
North Carolina barbecue
If you’re not getting the vegan version at Fiction Kitchen, meat eaters tell us the best spots for this local delicacy is Longleaf Swine (300 E Edenton St) or Ole Time (6309 Hillsborough St) if you’re looking for a cheaper option.
South Asian cuisine
The Raleigh area’s large South Asian population gives us an incredible selection of South Asian dining. My go-to in the vicinity of downtown is Kebab & Curry (2412 Hillsborough St), but if you venture into the suburbs of Cary and Morrisville, you can find just about any regional style of food you’re looking for, like the great uthappam at Udupi (590 E Chatham St in Cary).
Sosta Cafe
130 E Davie St #1806
This downtown spot is only open for weekday lunch, but their plethora of vegan sandwich options and killer sides are worth working going out of your way for.
Neomonde
3817 Beryl Rd
Local Mediterranean staple with lots of veggie options.f
Morning Times
10 E Hargett St
If you’re looking for a quick coffee within walking distance of Kings or the Pour House, this is the spot. Say hi to Alex from Paranoid Maniac if he’s working!
Gringo A Go Go
100 N Person St
Tasty Mexican food walkable from downtown and with lots of veg/vegan options. The chilaquiles will fuck you up. Extra punk points because this restaurant’s founder is CoC’s original singer, Benji Shelton.
Shopping
Nice Price Books & Records
3106 Hillsborough St
Used and new records and books. A tough place to leave empty-handed.
The Pour House
224 S Blount St
The venue for Friday’s late show also has a record shop in their upstairs area. It’s small, but gets good stuff and is well worth a visit.
Reader’s Corner
3201 Hillsborough St
A killer spot for used books (and some records and CDs), especially if you like loading up on cheap stuff.
Other Stuff
Oakwood Cemetery
701 Oakwood Ave
Historic cemetery in the beautiful Oakwood neighborhood. A nice place for a walk, particularly since we’re in spooky season.
Raleigh Rose Garden
301 Pogue St
A very chill spot that’s nice for a picnic or just quiet time.
Museums
If you’re looking for something more cultured, the NC Museum of Art (2110 Blue Ridge Rd) always has something showing (right now there’s an exhibit on Dutch masterpieces), The NC Museum of Natural Sciences (11 W Jones St) is right downtown and has some cool dinosaur bones, and the Marbles Kids Museum (201 E Hargett St) is also downtown and is a fun spot for kids.
