Like Water for Chocolate is the socially conscious, critical and commercial 2000 breakthrough album from Chicago hip hop artist Rashid Lynn aka Common. Using the best-selling novel turned blockbuster film Like Water For Chocolate as a metaphor for the album, the rapper proverbially dishes out sonic poetry for lyric-lovers with supreme backbeats tailored by the likes of Jay Dee, D’Angelo, Karriem Riggins, Premier, James Poyser and Ahmir Questlove Thompson of The Roots.

Questlove, a master sequencer and prolific drummer, also serves as co-pilot and executive producer on this eclectic 16-track 2LP-set which is home to the two stylish singles "The 6th Sense" and "The Light." In celebration of the 15 year anniversary of this hip hop classic UMe is putting the title back in print on colored vinyl as part of their Respect The Classics campaign!

“This album is about balance for me. On my last album, One Day It’ll All Make Sense, I was stepping into manhood and a certain knowledge and a certain path I wanted to travel. I was so into trying to strive for perfection and my music got too overwhelmed by that, and I didn’t really show any other sides of me. On Like Water For Chocolate, I was able to balance the things I’m learning in life and say, ‘Look, Rashid you ain’t perfect.’ There’s things you strive for like a good life and good health but at the same time you do have flaws.” - Common
