Following up 2024’s Parte, Brazil’s Lasso delivers their second album, Covarde(“Coward”). If you’ve been following Lasso across any part of their discography to date (3 EPs and an LP, all released on Sorry State in the US), Covarde contains little in the way of surprises; except, of course, for the surprising fact that a band already this ripping could crank the intensity even higher. Complex syncopated rhythms hurled at you like concrete blocks, guitar lines that fuse hardcore’s agile riffing with dense, original textures and melodies, shredded vocals that articulate the desperation too many of us live with every day… it’s all here, crammed into fifteen minutes of blistering hardcore punk. Lasso’s longtime visual collaborator Carlos Casotti even delivers another one of his trademark Blinko-esque illustrations for the cover. If you aren’t already hip to Lasso, Covarde is the perfect place to get acquainted with one of international hardcore punk’s true gems.
