What’s up Sorry State readers? I hope everyone has had a nice week. It seems like it’s rained almost every day here in Raleigh for the past two weeks, but we honestly probably needed all of it after a long dry spell. Definitely some thunderous summer storms going on though, which can be nice. A couple weeks ago we got these Bjork: Free Jazz Festival - Rio 1996 LPs into the store, which is sort of a “grey area” release of that live show. I’m always a fan of stuff like that as long as the quality is decent enough, which you can usually figure out if there’s a recording on YouTube, cause that’s where they’re probably ripping it from. I love me some Bjork, but I don’t think I had ever listened to a whole live show of hers. It was really cool to hear these versions of songs I was familiar with that have completely different instruments than the studio cuts. For example, this performance of Big Time Sensuality sounds crazy. I don’t know how to properly describe it, but it has this bubbly, almost underwater sound to it and then these crazy breakbeat drums. It almost sounds like a completely different song, but I love it. Venus as a Boy also has this crazy accordion going on during it, which may sound off-putting but it’s kinda sick. Of course Bjork herself sounds incredible as well. All around a great show to check out if you’re a fan of Bjork, we have a couple copies left here at Sorry State or if you’re just curious, you can check out the show on YouTube.
