Xylitol: demo cassette

Demo cassette from this new band out of Olympia, Washington.

Our take: Demo cassette from this ripping new punk band out of Olympia. The music is explosive pogo-punk of the type that we tend to associate with the New York / Toxic State scene nowadays, but honestly Xylitol are a lot more upbeat and dynamic than most of those bands, coming off more like something like Strutter's pogo-punk-at-hardcore-tempo sound. The only deal-breaker for some might be the vocals... they're right up front in the mix, and rather than the standard hardcore shout, these have that "feral cat" kind of sound... a high-pitched, snotty, scream-growl. It's actually really cool, but it may not be some people's cup of tea... if you happened to have heard the Raleigh band Last Words or the Richmond band Kommunion, this singer sounds quite a bit like Marina, who sings for both of those bands. Anyway, this is a super well-recorded, explosive demo... looking forward to hearing more from these folks!
