Killer debut 12" from this new band out of the unlikely locale of Iowa City. I guess musically this fits under the post-punk umbrella, but it sounds nothing like the death rock stuff that's been so popular for the past little bit. The label description references the Fall and that's definitely an apt starting point, but this is a bit catchier and not as kind of artsy or avant-garde as I think of the Fall as being. Parts of it also remind me a bit of Whatever Brains, but not so condensed and agitated... I could also see fans of Protomartyr really digging this. A real standout LP... if you like the aforementioned bands I'd definitely recommend checking these guys out.
