Whorecough: S/T cassette
Demo cassette from this new band out of Harrisonburg, VA. Despite their relatively provincial origins, this is some really cool stuff... it sort of lies on this line between straightforward punk and noise rock... it's fast like punk, but has the kind of lurching rhythms and dense instrumentation that I associate with 90s noise rock. Add in some rad lady vox with delay on them and you get something that sounds quite a lot like New York's Shoppers, though not quite as noisy and a little more straightforward. The recording is quite raw, but this seems like a band that would benefit from a clearer sound because there's simply so much going on, but even through the murkiness this has a really unique and very cool atmosphere.
