Whipworm: demo cassette
Demo cassette from thsi new band out of Philadelphia. Primitive, pounding punk with anger to spare, for fans of Good Throb or Snob.

Our take: Man, how many great female-fronted hardcore bands can one city have? If that's your bag then Philadelphia is an embarrassment of riches at the moment because the city seems to be absolutely flooded with great bands. However, even though there are a lot of great bands with women on the mic, every one of them is a bit different and Whipworm are no exception in that regard. While I'd classify them as a hardcore band, they don't play at quite the blistering pace of, say, Latex, and they don't bring the mosh as aggressively as S-21. Instead, they have this sort of rugged, medium-to-fast-paced style that reminds me of an EP that might have come out on a label like Riot City if it were from around 1980. It's a real fist-pumper, and if you like this kind of simple, catchy, no-frills hardcore punk this will be right up your alley.
