Vanity: Yer Fucking Boring 7"

Katorga Works Records

$6.00

Hot off the heels of their hit LP, Vain In Life, New York City street rockers Vanity are back with a bang on their new single, “Yer Fucking Boring” backed with “There's The Door.” The A-side follows in the same melodic vein as the full-length with Evan Radigan's singing flawlessly alternating between nice boy and rock 'n' roll outlaw while the flip-side sees the band setting a darker tone, but not without Colman Durkee's riffing ensuring there's still a whole lotta shakin' goin' on. Though the band set the bar unbelievably high with Vain In Life, this 7" single stomps the impossible and is the most natural follow-up to a perfect album. This is a one-time pressing of 500 copies.

Our take: Limited two-song single from this NYC skinhead/oi! band. It's way limited and already sold out from the label, so if you think you might want this I would encourage you to go ahead and pull the trigger now. In case you didn't pick up Vanity's debut LP (which also sold out in a flash), they sound a LOT like Skrewdriver... they build their songs around the same kinds of hyper-speed Chuck Berry riffs, and the singer has a similar melodic growl to Ian Stuart. I know I've said it many times before in these descriptions, but I've always been a big fan of the bands that lie on the more melodic end of the oi! spectrum, and Vanity definitely hit that sweet spot, particularly with the title track, which is even more melodic than anything on the LP. The guitar line is downright poppy--almost giving it a punky power-pop edge a la the Boys or something like that--and the near-falsetto vocals in the chorus get me every time. The b-side is a harder punk track that swipes the drum intro from "Back with a Bang," but hey, it's not like Vanity are shy about their influences anyway, right? Vanity are definitely up there with Rixe and Crown Court as top-shelf modern oi!, and if you've been following that sound this is pretty much an essential purchase.
