The Men: Electric b/w Water Babies 7"

Sacred Bones Records

Brand new single from this NYC band. If you've been following their releases, you probably know that the Men have been gradually streamlining and pop-ifying their approach since their chaotic early material, and this release continues that trend. The a-side is a fuzzed-out, heavy pop song in the tradition of bands like the Buzzcocks and Superchunk, while the flip side is similar but with a heavier Dinosaur Jr influence (particularly in the vocals). Two excellent songs... I'd say right off the bat these are grabbing me more than anything on their most recent LP, so even if you felt a bit disappointed by that record, this one still might be worth checking out.
