Stiv Bators and David Quinton: Make Up Your Mind 7"

Ugly Pop Records

Split 7" with both of these 70s punk legends playing the same song. "Make Up Your Mind" was one of the highlights of Bators' Disconnected LP, a moment of shimmering power-pop where everything just came together on an otherwise slightly awkward record. The song was written by drummer Dave Quinton, though, and Quinton recorded a solo version a few years later that comprises the b-side of this single. Playing up the power pop angle even more than Bators' version, this is beautiful, shimmering power pop in the Big Star / Paul Collins Beat tradition. An excellent single, and the versions are more than different enough that it's worth having both.
