Scalped: II 7"

Video Disease Records

Hot off the heels of their debut 7" on Warthog Speak, the Bay Area, CA's Scalped is back with their sophomore release on Video Disease. Picking up where they left off, Scalped brings us four songs of downtrodden, hateful, in-your-face hardcore heavily influenced by late-80's NYHC and early-80's Japanese HC. Heavy riffs coupled with throat-crushing vocals mixed with a Biohazard-esque swagger and devastating breakdowns, Scalped is a part of a new wave of HARDcore that refuses to back down. Featuring a guest appearance by Tony Molina. Limited edition of 300 copies.

Our take: 2nd 7" from this Bay Area band, and man is it a crusher! I'm sure there will be plenty of people for whom this is just too mosh-y... the riffs on this are straight up ignorant, and will almost certainly get even the most jaded listener doing a deep head-nod, if not a full-on bedroom mosh. I'm guessing the big inspiration here is early Madball, but with their stronger production I like Scalped a lot better than that comparison would have you believe. Make no mistake, this is tough music, but it's as well-done as the genre gets, so if you've ever taken pleasure in a pit getting cleared make sure to pick this up. Oh, and it's limited to only 300 copies, so don't sleep because this one is going to be gone in a flash.
