R Ring is a new project from Kelley Deal of the Breeders. It's a little known fact that I'm a HUGE Breeders fan, and consequently it's not a big surprise that R Ring's track here really hits the spot for me... it's a soft, delicate track but it definitely has that magic touch that only the Deal sisters possess. As for Quailbones, we've carried tons of their records here and I've liked them all, but they've devoted a real powerhouse track to this split. It's a big, hulking, melodic post-punk-inspired number... it's so catchy, in fact, that it almost reminds me more of vintage Britpop than post-punk, especially given that there's a bit of the band's Kentucky heritage showing through in their track's lazy, twangy style. My only complaint about this record is that it's so short... both tracks are great and have definitely kept me flipping this one over and over.
