Second cassette from this terribly underrated New York City band. On their last tape they reminded me of a mixture of two different NYC scenes... on the one hand they had the catchiness of, say, Parquet Courts, but also the heaviness and ugliness of Pollution / Shoxx or the Toxic State bands. Well, this time around Pleasure Industry have gotten quite a bit meaner and uglier. The sound is rawer and denser, and while the music is definitely memorable, the only real remnant of that catchier end of their sound is the fist-pumping power of the beats that drive these songs. This is just nasty, agile, catchy hardcore punk... for fans of stuff like Negative Trend, Fang, and the best Flipper songs. Recommended.
