Pig Eyes: Total Destruction of the Present Moment 12"
Debut 12" from this Swedish band featuring members of notable hardcore bands like Kvoteringen, Trapdoorf***ingexit and Nitad, but Pig Eyes have a very different sound. The label's description mentions Butthole Surfers, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, and Thin Lizzy, and while that's an odd amalgamation of influences, I think it's a pretty fair description of the band's sound. The Butthole Surfers and Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett-era) influences are particularly apparent, as Pig Eyes tend to rely on echo-y, spacey-sounding fluid guitar lines, but backed up with an absolutely bruising rhythm section. There's also something of Brainbombs' menacing vibe here, but Pig Eyes is much more song-oriented and catchy. Really, this reminds me of 90s bands like Nirvana and Helmet... stuff that was heavy and angry, but at the same time catchy enough that you could imagine it getting big. A very rad LP... if you're intrigued at all by the description I'd suggest picking it up. De-Nihil Records
