Our take: Demo-on-7" from this new Texas band featuring Dave from Tear It Up on vocals. I was a HUGE fan of Tear It Up when they were around, and if you liked them as well I think that Obedience will definitely scratch that itch. Dave has a particular vocabulary of vocal cadences and this very distinctive way of landing on these hard rhymes at the end of syllables, so even though the recording is very raw and the actual timbre of his vocals sounds a bit different here than on the old TIU records, he's still immediately recognizable. Musically, this also has a very similar aesthetic to Tear It Up, sounding like pure 80s USHC on the fast parts but borrowing a trick here and there from more of a youth crew type of style, but not to a degree that anyone would ever mistake this for a youth crew record. I do wish the recording were a little stronger... the only drum you can really hear is the snare, and while this is is still very listenable, I can't help but think a clearer, more conventional recording would serve this band extremely well. In the meantime, this one whets the appetite.
