Debut LP from this Memphis band... it's been getting a lot of hype, and for good reason! One member of Nots used to be in Ex-Cult, and I think that on this LP in particular that connection is really apparent... just like Ex-Cult, this kind of bops along at this menacing, mid-to-fast-paced tempo that never really erupts into a full-on punk assault. The Nots have also added a synth player since their earlier 7"s, and that really fills out the sound and there's a lot more going on in the arrangements. As with Ex-Cult, this is one of those records that has melodies criss-crossing over top of one another such that every time you listen something different sticks out. Since it's so busy it's not incredibly immediate, but it's one of those releases you can listen to over and over again and it feels new every time. Highly recommended.
