A relatively new Philly band, N.E.G. began making noise mid-2016 with a demo tape out on Cruel Noise Records out of Pittsburgh. This is their follow-up cassette, with 11.5 more minutes of raw, hardcore punk that should appeal to d-beat and crust fans alike.

Our take: Second cassette from this Philadelphia hardcore band, but it's the first I'm hearing of them. Well, you can go ahead and add N.E.G. to the list of killer bands bumping around Philly these days. Much like S-21, N.E.G. kind of remind me of Hoax with their buzzing bee-type guitar sound and big, meaty riffs, but they're a bit more straightforward and subtly catchy than Hoax themselves. If you dig Gay Kiss's Preservation Measures LP on Sorry State, I feel like N.E.G. have a similar sort of vibe happening, combining elements of tough hardcore with some interesting noise rock textures and wrapping it up in really interesting songwriting. Very cool.
