Hysteria Ward: From Breakfast to Madness 12"
Vinyl release of the long-lost demo tape by this early 80s UK post- / anarcho-punk band. Hysteria Ward were part of the All the Madmen label / collective along with the Mob, Zounds, Hagar the Womb, etc., and fit quite comfortably within that sound. It's funny, though, with the chorus on the guitar it actually sounds quite a lot like some modern death rock stuff that's been coming out like Blue Cross, Rule of Thirds, and Pleasure Leftists. However, unlike a lot of modern bands who are more concerned with creating a strong atmosphere, Hysteria Ward were pretty much writing classic pop songs... in that respect they have more in common with post-punk like the Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Echo and the Bunnymen than, say, Christian Death. At any rate, this is a rad little document of a great DIY band. General Speech Records
