Having settled in after a bidding war sent the band to Interscope Records, Helmet didn't waste anytime hitting the studio with noise super producer Steve Albini to lay down their second effort - the tight, focused and unrelenting 1992 masterwork Meantime. Albini's signature big drum sound gives the album a wide plot while non stop punishing riffs threaten to drive it right off a cliff. Lead single and hit heavy-alternative anthem "Unsung" was instrumental in shooting Meantime straight to the top of the radio and MTV playlists helping it achieve Gold status along the way. Worldwide, it sold over two million copies and carved out a nice place for heavier music in the sea of grunge and alternative-rock clones of the era. An early '90s classic, Meantime stands as a great influence on the decade and heavy music in general.
