Gino & The Goons: Push Your Luck +2 7"

Pelican Pow Wow Records

"GINO and the GOONS unleash another stomping single...and this time it's about getting STOMPED!! Recorded in New Orleans, around Mardi Gras, there was a party happening in the studio, and we ended up with BUCK BILOXI and KEITH HALL (ex-MANATEES) doing guitar solos on here, and recording dude ANDY PLOVNIK on bass too... plus all the regular GOONS in action too! The record also features a bitchin cover of the DMZ classic 'Ball Me Out' and a love song to GINO and the GOONS home state! Gotta do it!"

Our take: Latest single from this Total Punk-approved band, and it's a corker. I'm the biggest fan of this kind of Stones / Johnny Thunders-style neo-garage rock when the hooks are big and the energy level is high, and it's easy to see why "Push Your Luck" gets the a-side because it has both of those qualities in spades. The b-side tracks don't quite rise to that level of pop-infused dirty rock bliss, but they're solid rockers in the Stones-meets-Ramones mold.
