Daylight Robbery: Ecstatic Vision 12"
Second album from this excellent Chicago post-punk band. Their other stuff got the band a lot of comparisons to X (without the rockabilly influence), but this latest 12" sees the band having grown a great deal. The music has more of a post-punk feel, but mostly that's just because it really isn't overtly classifiable in terms of micro-genre. These are just dark, incredibly catchy, well-written tunes with tons of energy and melody. It reminds me a little bit of Masshysteri's later stuff, but more honest, less affected, and generally more American-sounding. The songwriting, production, and performances here are top-notch... great album! Residue Records
