Brain Vacation: The Musicians 12"

Wall of Youth Records

Debut LP from this Chicago punk band. This one is really tough to describe because it's quite unique. On the one hand the vocals remind me a bit of Paddy of Dillinger Four and there's a discernible pop-punk influence here (though of the good, heavy variety, e.g. Leatherface / D4 / etc.), but there's also an "anything goes," genre-hopping quality that reminds me of stuff like Whatever Brains or maybe even Broken Prayer. This might be a little bit poppy for some people's tastes, but it's heavy, driving, complex, dense, and undeniably punk. If you dig the stuff coming out on labels like Firestarter or Dirt Cult you may have just found your new favorite band. Wall of Youth Records
