Andy Human & The Reptoids, Punk, Wave, Rock n' Roll, Mutations, outer space, time travel, absurdist nihlism, are a band of cosmic assassins formed outta the muck by Andy Jordan (The Cuts, The Time Flys, Buzzer, LENZ). cover art by Froogy Mussmun!!!

Our take: I was a bit late to the party on Andy Human & the Reptoids' 2015 full-length (a friend only introduced me to it this past summer)... if you've been making a similar mistake regarding this group, then this limited-to-200 Italian release on Goodbye Boozy might be a good place to jump on the train. This single is absolutely jaw-dropping, and I just can't get it off my turntable. I mean, the full-length was some solid, sax-inflected '77 punk a la the Lurkers or the Boys, but the three songs on this single are just incredible, all built around very different kinds of riffs and instrumentation and having extremely different vibes from one another. I can't think of another single release that so perfectly captures what I love about the '77 era of UK and European punk, with the possible exception of the Cowboys LP. Even that record, though, kind of finds a solid little pocket and sits in it for most of its running order, but there's a kind of gleeful sense of experimentation to this single, whether it's the mid-paced punk of the a-side or the quirkier, jitterier (is that a word?) songs on the b-side. Everything is also very raw, recorded on a 4-track and generally with a much grittier, muddier sound than the full-length, and while "muddier" might not sound like a positive adjective, I'd say that this band wear it extremely well. As for band comparisons, I'm kind of at a loss, but if one of your main delights in life is digging up obscure independently-released singles on labels like Raw Records, Small Wonder, and Step Forward then I would highly encourage you to wade into the risky world of the musical present to give this single a try. Highly recommended.
