Immortal, from the Norwegian town Bergen, have established themselves as one of the most important black metal bands in the world. Formed by Demonaz (guitars) and Abbath (bass/vocals) in 1990 the group has issued nine trailblazing full-length slabs in their 25 plus year career. 1999 transitional release At the Heart of Winter finds Abbath and drummer Horgh working as a duo for the first time following the departure of Demonaz due to severe tendinitis (although he still provides his signature lyrics). Produced by Hypocrisy's Peter Tägtgren, the Norwegian black metal/German thrash hybrid pointed to a bright future with the trio of epics "Withstand the Fall of Time," "Tragedies Blows at Horizon" and "Years of Silent Sorrow."
