Kremlin: Drunk in the Gulag 12"
Debut LP from this Toronto raw punk band. Their first 7" on Hardware was a wild, almost psychedelic mess defined by some odd production choices (vocals that are both double-tracked and drenched in delay? surprisingly effective!). This new 12" is similar from a songwriting standpoint, but the production is totally different, dialing back the treble and reminding me a lot of the early Hellhammer stuff. This is primitive, raw stuff that takes the basic Discharge template followed by bands like Anti-Cimex and tries to break it down to an almost neanderthal level of brutality. Not a re-do of the 7" by any means, but a worthy follow-up. Beach Impediment Records
