Following Bob “Derwood” Andrews and Mark Laff’s departure from Generation X, they joined forces to form cult outfit Empire with bassist Simon Bernal. Together they produced one of rock history’s most hidden gems with Expensive Sound, home to the single "Hot Seat." Though virtually unknown, their lone album under the Empire moniker gained popularity in Washington DC, becoming a major influence on the hardcore and emo scenes.
